Detailed Rationale

CRISIL Ratings has assigned its ‘CRISIL BBB-/Stable/CRISIL A3’ ratings to the bank facilities of Balu Forge Industries Limited (BFIL).

The rating reflects BFIL's established market position of the company and controlled capital structure. These strengths are partially offset by moderate scale of operations and large working capital cycle.

Analytical Approach

For arriving at the rating of BFIL, the team has consolidated the financials of the subsidiaries as these are yet to commerce their operations.

Please refer Annexure - List of Entities Consolidated, which captures the list of entities considered and their analytical treatment of consolidation.

Key Rating Drivers & Detailed Description

Strengths:

  • Established market position: Mr. Chandock has an overall experience of more than 30 years in the same line of business. Over the period, he and other professional qualified staff has helped the company establish its presence across 80 countries. This has enabled the company to diversify its product portfolio thus increasing its operating income to Rs.137 crores in fiscal 2021 and Rs.122 crores being generated H1 of current fiscal year. BFIL will continue to benefit from its promoters' extensive industry experience over the medium term.

  • Controlled capital structure: Despite high dependence on outside borrowings for capital expenditure and working capital requirements, the company has been able to keep its capital structure under control and same has been observed in H1 of current fiscal year. With no dividend to be paid out over medium term, capital structure is expected to remain controlled over medium term backed by strong networth.

Weaknesses:

  • Moderate Operating Margins: Business risk profile is constrained by moderate scale of operations as reflected in revenues of Rs.139 crores in fiscal 2021. Moderate scale restricts barraging power with customers and suppliers, given intense competition in the industry.

  • Large working capital cycle: Working capital cycle continues to remain large with Gross Current Asset (GCA) of 482 days as on March 31, 2021. The company provides a credit period of 150-180 days to its customers due to business requirements and maintains an inventory of 75-90 days due to diversified product portfolio. Working capital requirements are partially supported by credit period of 90-120 days received from suppliers. With improvement in debtor cycle observed in H1 of current fiscal year, working capital cycle is expected to improve, however it will continue to remain key monitorable factor over medium term.

Liquidity: Adequate

BFIL has adequate liquidity driven by expected cash accruals of Rs.20-25 crores annually in fiscal 2022 and fiscal 2023 against repayment obligations of Rs.6.53 and Rs.4.62 crores. Cash and cash equivalents were Rs.10.21 crore as on September 30, 2021. CRISIL expects internal accruals, cash & cash equivalents and unutilized bank lines to be sufficient to meet its repayment obligations and incremental working capital requirements.

Outlook: Stable

CRISIL Ratings believes BFIL’s business risk profile will remain stable over the medium term.

Rating Sensitivity factors

Upward factors:

  • Reduction and sustenance in debtor days to below 150 days, thereby improving overall working capital cycle.
  • Improvement and Sustenance of revenues above Rs.250 crores leading to higher net cash accruals

Downward factors:

  • Sizeable stretch in working capital cycle, with gross current assets rising above 350 days
  • Deterioration in financial risk profile leading to increase in TOL/ANW to above 3 time

About the Company

BFIL was set up in 1989 by Mr. Prehlad Singh Chandoc as a proprietary firm and in August 2020 it was convnerted into a listed entity. It is based in Mumbai and has its manufactures type of crankshaft in a large range of applications namely Automotive, Agricultural, Marine & Industrial in Karnataka.
